“When you have a baby girl, you realize that there is something far more precious than the most precious jewels.”
I photographed this sweet newborn girl on her ONE month birthday. According to Chinese custom, the parents hold a celebration on her first full month of life. For this newborn session, momma emailed me some color options she loved along with a traditional Chinese garment.
I always have a lot of soft colors and neutrals on hand, but for this session I created something to compliment the traditional garment. I love how it turned out and they did as well – which is always the goal š
In Chinese culture
Red is also a symbol of prosperity. Red is also the color in Chinese weddings, representing good luck, joy and happiness. The most beautiful color in Chinese culture is said to be yellow/gold, so I decided to hand-paint a backdrop in gold. The Chinese saying, Yellow generates Yin and Yang, implies that yellow is the center of everything. Yellow symbolizes neutrality and good luck and is sometimes paired with red in place of gold. Yellow was the color of Imperial China and is held as the symbolic color of the five legendary emperors of ancient China. It also represents freedom from worldly cares and is thus esteemed in Buddhism as seen where Monksā garments are yellow, as are elements of Buddhist temples. As a photographer and artist, I have a style, but it’s so important to me that your session represents your style and traditions.
Happy one month birthday, baby!
