Most of my photography inspiration, comes from my children and my client’s children.
Kids who read are more likely to succeed! ā¤š
How’s your summer reading going?šš We love reading! We’ve consumed so many wonderful stories this summer that a Storybook Photography Session was inevitable!
I recently photographed a family for a Studio Styled Photography Session who also love reading as much as we do. šš I was inspired to create a setup around reading and the joy it brings to those who embrace it ššā¤
This happy little reader loved her styled Storybook Photography Session so much, she told her mom she wants to be a photographer when she grows up ššø Can we say Best compliment EVER! ā¤ā¤
āReading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.ā ā Richard Steele
Reading hasn’t always been a love of mine. Truth be told, I probably read about 10 books in total all throughout school. I struggled in school and I struggled to focus. Finishing tasks and projects have always been a real challenge for me. Academically, I pretty much skated by.
You can probably guess where I’m going with this. Yes, I too was diagnosed and medicated for ADHD. ADHD in girls is harder to diagnose than with boys and we’re typically diagnosed when we’re much older. That’s often because we’re not bouncing off the walls like the boys. We’re generally somewhere lost in space while someone is talking to us or staring out the window during a lecture. I remember as a kid reading pages silently to myself, but I couldn’t recite one thing in it. As you can imagine, this crippled my confidence which stayed with me well into adulthood.
āOnce you learn to read, you will be forever free.ā ā Frederick Douglass ā¤šš
When I became a mother, my whole world changed. I made a decision that my weaknesses would not become theirs and my preaching would be practiced. If reading sets you free, then together we will soar the sky with wings of an eagle.
I began reading to them every night. Visits to our library became as frequent as trips to the grocery store. I found so much inspiration from the stories we read. Getting lost in story-time, became our happy place. It became MY happy place. Soon, I began picking out books for myself. Movies and nonsense shows were replaced with novels.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” -Dr. Seuss
This summer we set out on an adventure to visit new places and learn new things. Our brain grew stronger and the mind found solitude. Creativity poured from the soul. We never left Hudson. We simply read. A lot.
In 2 and a half months, together we’ve read over 400 books and I still have a pile in the corner I need to log.
They read when they are bored, in the car, and in the store. They read while I work, making the next meal and when they need a break from each other. In lieu of electronics, they read. It’s been a wonderful summer ā¤
“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.ā ā Margaret Fuller
Did you know Approximately 32 million adults in the United States can’t read? Probably one of the greatest gifts you can give to another person is simply to read with them. ā¤š
